Barbara Ann (Cometti) Hefley

Barbara Ann (Cometti) Hefley of Coalgate, OK, passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, January 24, 2023. She was born February 26, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan. When she was seven years old Barbara’s parents Rena (Cosner) and William Cometti moved from Detroit to Coalgate.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 44 years Perry Hefley; her daughters Dyanna Price and Donna Williams; her grandchildren Tara Flint, Andrew Price and wife Kacee, Tanner Price and wife Jessica, Kyrstan (Glasco) Cagle and husband David, Ryan Guinn, Whitney Williams, and Brock Williams; her great-grandchildren Blayne, Trayte, Madyson, Camryn, Drew, Daxton, Jakoby, Bostyn, Kaiser, Maisyn, and Hudson; her brothers Charles, David, Frank, and Larry; her sister Debra (Cometti) Childers; her step-daughter Cathy (Hefley) Krebs and her husband Larry; their children Damon, Calie, and Joseph; their grandchildren Chase, Brant, Boone, Dallas, Laramie, and Tessa; and her many many friends.

“Nana,” as she was affectionately known by her family, represented everything that a matriarch can be. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, and her impact on their lives can never be measured. Suffice to say that she loved them without end, and they will forever have a place reserved for her in their hearts. A favorite tradition Barbara shared with her family was making homemade gnocchi for holidays. This tradition was passed down from her mother, Rena, with whom Barbara was extremely close. Barbara loved the holidays when her home was full with her family. She loved the busyness of the kitchen at these times, sitting around the table with her daughters and grandchildren, and the chatter of a family reunited for the day.

Barbara was a woman full of life and love, and she would share that vibrance with all whom she encountered. She enjoyed going to horse camps with Perry and friends. She loved babies and would often volunteer at the daycare in Cottonwood. Barbara also volunteered at Coalgate Manor, spending time with patients there. She loved to go shopping, having her nails manicured, and her hair styled.

Barbara worked for thirty years as a legal secretary in both Coalgate and Ada for John B. Axton. After his passing she finished her career working for the Coal County District Attorney.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father William Cometti, her mother Rena Cometti, and her son Darrell Courson.

The funeral will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 at Brown’s Funeral Home in Coalgate. Family night will be Thursday, February 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or the Angela Tate Glasco Scholarship Fund.
