Opal Mae Trent

Opal Mae Williams Trent (87) passed away Sept. 15, 2021 in Duncan, Oklahoma. Funeral services were at 11am, Monday, September 20, at Whitt Funeral Home. Interment was at Duncan Cemetery. Pallbearers were Justin Punneo, Jason Punneo, Kasey Williams, Kyle Williams, and Bobby Hickman. Family and friends visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Whitt Funeral Home.

Opal was born Opal Mae Williams on November 18, 1934 in Coalgate to Wilson Williams Jr. and Cristal “Fern” Baker. She was one of 13 children born to them. Opal attended school at Pine School in Coalgate until 6th grade when she had to withdraw because she needed to help her family at harvest time on the farm. She married Charles Alvin “Pete” Trent at the age of 18 on Sept 12, 1953 in Wichita Falls. Pete and Opal made their lives in the Duncan community, where they had a farm, Pete worked at Duncan Iron and Metal— and they raised their 3 children, Terry, Teresa, and Brenda. During their marriage, Opal was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her yard, fishing, and crocheting. In 1989, Pete and Opal opened T and T Pipe & Steel, which remained operating until Pete’s death in 1994. Pete and Opal had been married 41 years when he passed away. After Pete’s death, Opal moved from the farm to a house in town where she continued to love nurturing her beautiful yard, playing at the casino, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her life’s greatest joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Vera, Cristeen, Helen, Wilson “Pete” Jr., Jay W., W.C., Billy Gene “Cub”, Maurice, Lavon, and Betty.

Opal is survived by sisters: Tammy and Bernice; her son, Charles “Terry” Trent and his wife, Kelly of Chickasha; daughter, Teresa Ann Wiggins and her husband, James of Velma; daughter, Brenda Kay Trent and her partner, Roger Phelps of Lawton; six grandchildren: Justin Punneo, Jason Punneo, Kasey Williams, Kyle Williams, all of Duncan, Jordan Trent and Taylor Trent, both of Norman; and eight great-grandchildren: Madi Punneo, Rylee Brown, Jensen Punneo, Eden Williams, Taden Williams, Charlotte Williams, and Violet Williams.

All will remember “Nanny Trent” as a loving, beautiful, witty person. We will miss her tremendously, but will continue our lives here with the certainty that we will see her again in Heaven.
