Here it is the first of September. I thought if we could ever make it through August, we would surely be done with the 100 plus temperatures but according to my TV the 100s will persist right through our new month of September.

A retired friend of mine fishes three or four times a week. He does it because he enjoys it and it is something to do. A retired school teacher friend played organized basketball until he was 85. He played in college and enjoyed the game his entire life.

Over the past few weeks, I have had a number of conversations about State Question 844. Almost every one quickly turned to school funding. That concern is understandable. SQ 844 raises real questions about funding for schools and local governments.

There were four of them that day, sisters named Lora, Cora, Dora and Ruth, and my dad went too. I loaded them all up in my motorhome and we headed East toward what had been home at one time for them. They did not know how to get down there any more but I did, so away we went to Kennedy, Oklahoma.

Two media outlets recently declared Oklahoma to be among the 10 worst states to move to or live in.Apparently, the authors of those lists didn’t talk to actual people moving across state lines.

Courage at HomeIt was 1955 when I first saw this Marine Sargent. He served on my ship’s security detail, the USS Lexington a carrier that fought in WWII. But it was on a Greyhound Bus out of San Diego, California that I noticed he was going my way — east to Oklahoma.

Fast Tracking on Sandy Bend UpdatedThey don’t make creeks like they used to. I speak of Buck Creek. To narrow the search for the creek I am speaking of I direct your attention to the county road between Stonewall and Owl Creek.

Having had a lot of dental work done over the years, I really enjoyed and appreciated the following article written by Jim Mullen. I just spent two hours in a dentist’s chair having a crown replaced. It wasn’t all the fun it’s cracked up to be.

Getting OlderI spoke (wrote) to a pair of old timers this morning and it reminded me to write a smidgen for this week’s “One Pharmacist’s View.” Chesley (Tiny) Ray, Corky’s younger brother, was the first. Tiny is recovering from a heart procedure and is doing OK — so he says.
