Arvard Jay Ward

A Memorial service will be Thursday, October 13th at 10:00 am at the Choctaw Community Center in Coalgate for Arvard Jay Ward.

Arvard Jay (Jay Boy) Ward was born April 18, 1949 to Johnny Carden (JC) Ward and Evelyn McLellen Ward Guffey in Coalgate, Oklahoma. He gained his wings on September 29, 2022, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Guffey, his father JC Ward and brothers, Stan, Roy and Kelly Ward.

He is survived by Margaret Smith, of the home, his daughter, Teresa Dunn, her husband Mike and their children, Colten and Madison of Ninnekah, OK, his son, Jay Ward and his wife Julie of Fittstown, OK, and his daughter, Maddie Ward and her children, Abby and Cooper of Ada, OK.

He is also survived by his brothers, Jack Guffey of Tupelo, Danny Ward of Stuart, Johnny Ward of Cairo, Randy Ward of Broken Bow, Benny Ward of Cottonwood, Bobby Ward of Cairo, Wes Ward of Coalgate, Terry Ward of Allen and Cody Ward of Coalgate and his sisters, Jaylene Roberts of Lane and Cathy Guffey and her husband Charles of Tupelo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jay was a US Army Veteran who was a welder/fabricator and rancher by trade. He retired from Coal County District 1 in 2011. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, riding his Harley, forging knives and working on their ranch. He had a huge soft spot in his heart for rescuing shelter and abandoned dogs.
