Retired airline pilot, Billy “Bill” Joe Branom, 91 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma soared up to heaven on December 24, 2023, after a bout with cancer. Bill was born to Sherman Bland Branom and Ruby Elizabeth (Dobson) Branom, in Lehigh, Oklahoma on June 3, 1932.

As a very young child, Bill dreamed of becoming a pilot.

He always kept that goal in his sights.

Bill graduated from Coalgate High School in 1950 before attending Oklahoma A & M University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After graduating from college, Bill joined the U. S. Army and was trained on a Single Rotor Helicopter and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. In the early 1960’s, he worked for Southern Airways in Georgia where he flew a DC-3. The last stage of his flying career was when Bill went to work for American Airlines at DFW Airport in Texas. He flew for them for over 30 years. He achieved the rank of Captain and took his final International flight on a Boeing 767.

Bill married Norma Sue (Bohuslavicky-Sutton) in 1993. Bill and Sue enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, going to auctions, and just “being together.” Bill was a devoted member of Soldier Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher into his 90’s. Bill is survived by his wife, Sue Branom; sister, Sherry Lolli; daughter, Deborah Lyon and husband, Mike Lyon; daughter, Stephanie Branom; son, Jim Sutton and wife Pam Sutton; son, Bill Sutton and wife, Terri Sutton; and son, Mike Sutton and wife, Susan Sutton. Bill is survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy Sutton, Amy Lester, Tony Sutton, Brittani Nelson, Clay Sutton, Courtney Parsons, and Colton Sutton. Bill is also survived by many great grandchildren and numerous friends.

A celebration of Bill’s life was held at Soldier Creek Baptist Church in Midwest City, Oklahoma on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
