Funeral services for Billy Rendil Weathers, a Cottonwood resident, were held Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Bro. Richard Magby officiating, assisted by Bro. Eddie Hogue. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Weathers was born June 3, 1932 to Herschel and Lilian (Spears) Weathers at Stigler, OK and passed away March 9, 2021 at Cottonwood, OK at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 2 days. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict and retired as an Electrician with PSO. Billy married Gladys Ruth Wood on May 22, 1964 at the Methodist Church in Porum, OK and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2017. Billy devoted his life as Pastor of the Cottonwood Baptist Church for many years. He was a member of the Coalgate Masonic Lodge and Coalgate VFW and enjoyed gardening, flowers and listening to Bluegrass music.

Survivors include daughter, Janice Hampton of Cottonwood; son, Lee Weathers and wife Robbie of Cottonwood; daughter-in-law, Debbie Weathers of Cottonwood; grandchildren, Dottie Horn and husband, Chris of Lehigh, Jim Wright of McAlester, Tammy Hobgood and husband Larry of Coalgate, Beth Evans and husband Lloyd of Wellston, OK, and Dusty Weathers and wife Courtney of Jacksonville, AR; great-grandchildren, Michael Juristy, JD Wright, Chaci Bowker, Ray Evans, Braylee Evans, Madeline Cagle and Morgan Feltman; great-great-grandchildren, Tagen Juristy, Noah and Teller Feltman and Jentry Bowker; sisters, Helen Bolt and Caroline Underwood, both of Whitefield, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Lilian (Spears) Weathers; wife, Gladys Ruth (Wood) Weathers; ex-wife, Gloria Jean Fuller and son, Rendil Weathers.

Casketbearers were Jim Wright, Dusty Weathers, JD Wright, Michael Juristy, Larry Hobgood, Lloyd Evans, Chris Horn, Josh Bowker, and Tim Feltman. Honorary bearers were Walter Lee Hogue, Bob Trail, Johnny Ward, David Vaughn, and Johnny Maggia.
