A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday, December 10, to celebrate the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s new Country Market in Coalgate.

“This will be a great service to our community that will improve the lives of our tribal members,” said Chief Gary Batton. “Our focus is on economic growth for the Choctaw Nation, which is providing opportunities for growth and job development.”

The 10,200 square-foot Country Market will create 28 jobs. The facility will be a one-stop shopping spot for locals offering five fuel dispensers, deli, bakery, fresh produce and a butcher shop.

“It takes a vision to create businesses and opportunities in order to keep expanding and we can’t do that without great leadership,” said James Frazier, Choctaw Nation Councilmember District 12. “We are excited to open this new country market because at the end of the day we work for the Choctaw people.”

The Country Market will be located at 1102 S. Broadway and plans to open by winter 2019. Construction is scheduled to begin this winter.

The Coalgate market is the third Choctaw Country Market located in southeastern Oklahoma. The first Country Market opened in 2016 in Clayton. The Country Market in Boswell plans to open by early 2019.
