Gas drive off

Circle N Market reported a gas drive off of $30.23 on September 13. The cashier stated that she turned pump 4 on for a local man who pumped $30.23 worth of gas into a car. After the car drove away without paying, the cashier learned that the local man was pumping the gas for a woman he didn’t know “just to help her out.”

The vehicle was described as a gray 2016–2018 Ford Explorer.

Bicycle hit and run

A woman reported on September 6 that her 8-year-old son was hit by a vehicle as he was riding his bike on S. Broadway.

The boy was knocked off his bike, she said, but his only injuries were scrapes on his side and both elbows.

Her son told her that the driver of the white car was texting on the phone and ran a stop sign.

Vehicle vandalism

A woman reported on the night of September 7 that the back window of her vehicle had been broken out at Circle N Market.

She said she discovered the broken window when she went to her car to get her telephone charger.

Coalgate man charged with

child sex crimes

A 56-year-old Coalgate man was arrested and booked into the Coal County jail Monday afternoon on suspicion of committing sex crimes against a minor.

According to Assistant Chief of Police Steven Jett’s probable cause affidavit, the child’s mother reported the alleged offenses to a counselor at Southeastern Oklahoma Family Services.

George Eugene McCoy has been charged with felony lewd or indecent proposal or acts to child under 16 and rape by instrumentation.

The lewd or indecent proposal crime carries a penalty of three to 20 years in the state penitentiary. Rape by instrumentation carries a prison sentence of five years to life without parole.

At press time on Tuesday, McCoy had not made his initial court appearance.

Woman charged with

unauthorized use of credit

card

Charges were filed Monday against a 23-year-old Coalgate woman accused of using a friend’s debit card to order merchandise totaling $927.95.

The debit card holder told Officer Taylor Wood that Mary Jo Ann Brown had stayed at her and her husband’s home for a couple of days. The debit card problem came to light when she went to the grocery store and the card was declined. When she called the bank, she learned about a $493.20 purchase from Wish.com and a $434.75 purchase from AliExpress.com, neither of which she had made.

She said she ran an errand one day when Brown was staying at her house and did not take her purse. She felt that’s when Brown got her card information.

Wood said when he spoke with Brown about the situation, she told him she used the card “to buy the kids Christmas presents” and that she told (the victim) she would pay her $100 more than the amount spent.

A warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued on Monday.
