Funeral services for James Woodrow Harris, a Tupelo resident, were held Monday, May 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Larry Hawkins officiating, assisted by Randy Wade. Burial was in Round Lake Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harris was born May 17, 1940 to Osborne Reason and Nancy (Roberts) Harris at Talihina, OK and passed away May 13, 2021 at Coalgate at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 26 days. He graduated from Centrahoma High School in 1959 and then attended ECU. James served in the Air Force and National Guard for 12 years. During his Air Force service he was stationed in Vietnam.

He married Dorothy Jane Greenwood July 19, 1973 in Durant. She preceded hm in death January 8, 1987. James was a switch board manager and a security guard for the Carl Albert Hospital. He was also a past Fire Chief for the City of Coalgate. He was a member of the District 12 Choctaw Seniors. James enjoyed watching the Thunder and OU teams. He liked watching western movies, but his greatest love was watching his great-grandchildren play ball.

Survivors include his daughters, Monette Richardson and husband Patrick, Ramona Chapman, all of Ada, and Kimberlie Chapman of Tupelo; son, Devon Chapman of Ada; nieces, Ricky Loudermilk and husband Dan of Coalgate, Marilyn K. Morgan and husband Doyle of Ada, Joyce Ingram and Rowena Morrison, both of Duncan; nephews, Tom Heck and wife Donna of Phillips, OK, and Randy Heck of Coalgate; twenty-three grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jane (Greenwood) Harris; parents, Osborne Reason and Nancy (Roberts) Harris; daughters, Sarah Mashunkashey, Sandra Gastineau and Neeahtha Chapman; sons, Al Chapman and Jimmy Lee Chapman; brothers, David Harris, Reason Harris and Leon Harris; sisters, Mary Harris Heck and Jessie Lynch; niece, Shirley Morgan and husband, Tommy.

Casketbearers were Kobe Woolpert, Cory Daniels, Stevie Sawney, Dominque Chapman, Larame Adams, and Randall Talton. Honorary bearers were Pat Richardson, grandsons and great-grandsons.
