Funeral services for Jess William “Pokey” Miller, age 82, a lifelong Farris, OK area resident, were held January 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Bro. Ron Marble and Brock Marble officiating. Burial was in Farris Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller was born on Saturday, February 3, 1940, to Charles and LoEdith (Birchfield) Miller, at Farris, OK. Pokey passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Farris, OK. He attended Farris school, later graduating from Atoka High School in 1959. Pokey worked at Atoka Sale Barn for many years, he was a cattle buyer and rancher. Pokey proudly served his country in The Oklahoma National Guard. He married Jo Ann Howerton on September 30, 1966. Pokey was a member of Farris Baptist Church. He loved buying cattle, horse races, talking to his friends, especially Junior Bruce, they talked every day and hung out at the sale barn. Pokey also loved going to Shreveport and watching horse races.

Pokey is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Sue Sartin of Atoka, OK; son, Mark Miller and wife Kelly of Farris, OK; grandchildren, Zack Miller and wife Lindsay of Farris, OK, Jessa (Miller) Marble and husband Brock of Farris, OK; great grandchildren, Makenli Miller, Milas Miller, Jason Chaffin, Heaven Chaffin; nieces, Tammy Trentham of Coalgate, OK, Angie Nelson and husband Loren of Olney, OK; nephew, Kent Mitchell and wife Kerri of Mustang, OK, along with numerous cousins, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and LoEdith (Birchfield) Miller; infant brother, Charles Miller; sister, Sara Ann Mitchell; nephew, Kelly Mitchell; wife, Jo Ann Howerton Miller; step son, Roy Ed Breland Miller.

Casketbearers were Jay McAdams, Shawn Birchfield, Bryan Cathey, Jason Griffin, Rick Combs, and T. J. Pfaff. Honorary bearers were (In Memory Of) Junior Bruce, Jody Sherrill, Awtry Mead, Kelly Standridge, Paul Howard and Robert Arnold.
