Laura Elizabeth Dodson

Laura Elizabeth Dodson, a lifelong caregiver and proud grandmother known for her humor, creativity, and deep love for her family, passed away June 25, 2025, in Coalgate. She was 69.
Born October 23, 1955, in Ada, Oklahoma, Laura was the daughter of Glenn Earl and Minnie Eulala (Rush) Dodson. She spent her early years attending school in California and later in Tupelo. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Oklahoma.
Laura worked as an occupational therapist and also embraced the role of homemaker. A woman of faith and curiosity, she was a member of the Tupelo Church of Christ but had a genuine interest in exploring all denominations.
Her family says Laura’s true calling was being a grandma to her six grandchildren. She loved writing and drawing and spent countless hours with her beloved dog, Idgie. She had a signature style of staying in touch— sending heartfelt cards, humorous Facebook memes, and videos to loved ones. She often joked that she was “the last outlaw,” proudly noting that she had outlived most of her family and friends.
Laura is survived by her daughter, Jessica Lynn Romero of Olney, OK; her son, Eric Glen Moore of Coalgate, OK; five granddaughters— Lilyana Romero, Rosalia Romero, Dahlia Romero, Camila Romero, and Minnie Wren— and one grandson, Eric Moore Jr. She is also survived by her stepsisters, Paula Thompson and Rhonda Marusak; her cherished dog, Idgie; and numerous cousins, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lynn Earl Dodson and Lloyd Eric Dodson; and her stepmother, Judy Dodson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Tupelo Church of Christ with Pastor Bryant Naquin officiating. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery.
