Funeral services for Leon “Fuzzy” Edgar Jones, a lifelong Coal and Atoka County area resident, were held Friday, July 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Bro. Raymond Humphrey officiating. Burial was in Butler Cemetery in Lane, with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones was born December 7, 1931, to Earl Thomas and Susie (Biggs) Jones at Coalgate and passed away June 28, 2022, at Coalgate at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 21 days. He attended Coalgate and Atoka Public Schools and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army.

Leon married Udell (Hammond) April 21, 1957, at Lane, OK. She was the mother of his children. He later married Vondell (Winters) McCarty and then later married Ollie (Thompson) Jones. Leon worked many years as a highliner. He worked for RS Goodman Company for many years and later retired from Southwest Power Co. He was a farmer and rancher all of his life.

Leon was of the Baptist faith and came to know the Lord just a short time ago. He was known as “Fuzzy Jones” by many dear friends. He was known for his memory and knowledge of people’s past history. Leon was also known for his sense of humor. He loved ranching, raising cattle, having good horses, watching old western movies, and visiting with his family.

Survivors include his children, Rickey Jones and wife Tracy, Terry Jones, all of Lane, OK, Debbie Reece and husband Terry of Caddo, OK, Nancy Jones of Tushka, OK; grandchildren, Craig Jones and wife Tori of Bentley, OK, Subrena Bell and husband Dewayne of Antlers, OK, Tabby Nave and husband Kevin of Crystal, OK, Kristi Benjamin of Hugo, OK, Sean Benjamin and wife Sonya of Farris, OK, Rowdey Jones, Nick Jones, Kanion Jones, Boggy Jones and wife Stephanie, Kountri Jones, all of Lane, OK, Terra Stanley and husband Jarred, Chelsea Bryant and husband Tyler, all of Caddo, OK, Kace Hallows and husband Tanner of Centerpoint, OK, and Ellie Hill and husband Jayce of Tushka, OK; thirty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special caregivers, Robbie Grothe and Nadine McDaniel; sisters-in-law, Roberta Green of Lane OK, Raylene Hammond of Lane, OK, Linda Hammond of McAlester, OK; stepson, Tommy Bennett and wife Robbie of Stringtown, OK; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Thomas, and Susie (Biggs) Jones; wives, Udell Jones, Vondell Jones and Ollie Jones; stepmother, Verda Mae Jones; brothers, Loren Dale Jones, Carl D. Jones; sisters, Barbara Drong, Juanita Tomlinson; daughters, Shelia D. (Jones) Cochran, Christine Benjamin; grandsons, Blake Self, Tanner Jones; great-grandsons, Brook Jones, Christopher Benjamin.

Casket bearers were Boggy Jones, Rowdey Jones, Nick Jones, Craig Jones, Sean Benjamin, Ronnie Tomlinson, and Larry Joe Hunter. Honorary bearers were Ruth Wilson Hurley Manor Employees, Leroy Mitchell, and the late Leon Yates.
