She graduated from Olney High School in 1957 and married her childhood sweetheart, Tommy Lee Nickell, on February 21, 1957, at their pastor’s home in Allen, Oklahoma. Together they built a full and joyful life surrounded by family and friends. In 1963, Mary and Tommy moved to Nye County, Nevada, where Mary devoted herself to her community. She drove a school bus for local children, volunteered with EMS, and served on the Nye County School Board. She and her family also ran a successful business—Nickell’s Quick Stop—for more than 20 years near the California– Nevada line, all while raising their two sons. Mary stayed active by participating in local bowling and softball leagues, always finding joy in being part of her community. After 32 years in Nevada, Mary and Tommy returned to Oklahoma to be near family. Mary quickly became a beloved and active part of the Roff community. A talented quilter, she was commissioned to create traditional tribal dresses for the Chickasaw Council House Museum. She was also a devoted member of Hickory Baptist Church, where she actively supported Vacation Bible School and volunteered at Falls Creek Church Camp.
