Funeral Services for Oscar Joseph Cannon of Wayne, OK were held Friday, December 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Little’s Chapel. Burial followed at the Hopping Cemetery in Wayne. Wilson-Little Funeral Service was in charge of arrngements.
Oscar Joseph Cannon Jr, age 87 of Wayne, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025 at Purcell Municipal Hospital. Born February 15, 1938 in Coalgate, OK, the youngest of two sons born to Oscar Joseph Cannon Sr and Mary (Tskorski) Cannon. He was raised in Coalgate where he attended school, graduating with the Wildcats Class of 1957.
He married his high school sweetheart, Miss Faye Ott on May 29, 1959 in Coalgate. Oscar first attended Murray State College, later receiving both his Bachelors and his Master’s Degree in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Oscar began his teaching career in Wyoming, and taught for a time in Oklahoma and Montana. By 1974, they had settled in Wayne, where they raised their family, daughter, Diana and son, Jake. He returned to school at East Central University and earned his Administrator’s Certificate. For nearly 20 years, Oscar walked Wayne Elementary School halls shaping the minds of future Bulldogs, retiring as Principal in 1993. Away from work, he enjoyed deer hunting, and looked forward to annual elk hunting trips in Colorado. He loved fishing and never missed an opportunity for a round of golf. For many years, Oscar worked for his friend Raymond Ellis on the farm, although he never considered it work. He cherished Faye and his children, and he was never happier than the day he became a PaPa. He was a man of great faith and a member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Purcell. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Oscar Sr and Mary Cannon and his brother, Robert Cannon.
Oscar is survived by: his loving wife, Faye Cannon of the home; daughter, Diana Cannon of Paoli, OK; son Jake Cannon and wife Danna of Purcell; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Suzanne Miller and husband Rodney of Centerton, AR, Tanner Dunlap of Edmond and Payton Dula and husband Jeremy of Arlington, TX; one great-granddaughter, Kiera Miller and a host of other family and friends.
