Our sympathy is extended to the family of Arthur AJ James Calvin

Graveside services for Arthur “AJ” James Calvin, a longtime Stringtown, OK resident, formerly a longtime Gowen resident, were held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Bera Cemetery in Atoka with Rev. Donnie Day officiating. Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Calvin was born July 10, 1926 to Roy Elvin and Lola Bell (Rose) Calvin at Talihina, OK and passed away September 12, 2023 at Atoka, OK at the age of 97 years, 2 months and 2 days. He attended Talihina Public School and was a driller for the oil rigs. AJ proudly served his country in the Army during WWII.

He was of the Baptist faith and loved to work on small engines, mowing, taking care of cattle and fishing.

Survivorsincludeagranddaughter, Mary Henderson and husband Dale of Stringtown, OK; brother, Johney Calvin and wife of Gowen, OK; greatgrandchildren, Summer Barnes and husband Woodrow of Lehigh, OK, Coey Dale Henderson of Bentley, OK; great-great-grandchildren, Haidyn Marie Henderson, Cooper McCrea Barnes, Avery Kate Coslow, and Colter Dean Barnes; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Elvin and Lola Bell (Rose) Calvin; daughter, Carolyn Ford; grandson, Christopher Howard Hurt; brothers, Robert Calvin, Cowesley Calvin, Charlie Calvin, Bill Calvin, Douglas Calvin, and Glen Calvin; and sisters, Mary Hudspeth and Martha Tubbs.

Casketbearers were Coey Dale Henderson, Woodrow Barnes, Aron Smith, Rodger Raines, Wendel Smith, Dale Henderson, and Cooper McCrae Barnes. Honorary bearers were Johney Calvin, Robert Calvin, Ronnie Joe Calvin, Johney Calvin, Jr., and Terry Joe Calvin. Condolences may be sent to the family by email to: browns@atoka.net.
