Service to be Held for Velena Faye (Cox) Hopkins

Family graveside service for Velena Faye (Cox) Hopkins, a Tupelo resident, will be Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate, OK.

Mrs. Hopkins was born December 14, 1957 to Verlon Cox and Bonnie Shafer at Jacksonville, FL and passed away September 19, 2023 at Ada, OK at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 5 days. She graduated from Malakoff High school in Malakoff, TX and married Michael Hopkins in Dallas, TX. He preceded her in death September 28, 2004. Velena was a homemaker and loved caring for her grandsons. She was a Christian and enjoyed dancing and making people laugh. Velena loved watching her grandkids and her favorite times were spent with her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Lauren Sanders and husband Josh of Tupelo, OK; son, Beau Hopkins of Tupelo; grandsons, Slade and Silo Sanders of Tupelo; sisters, Phyllis Michie and husband Dave of Rockwall, TX, Amanda Martin and husband J. J. and Angela Payne all of Jacksonville, FL; nieces, Jessie Kilpatrick and husband Robert of Austin, TX, Jennifer Montgomery of Dallas, TX, Tracey Hopkins of Crystal Lake, IL, Joanne Hopkins of Tampa, FL, Annette Bastawy of Harvard, IL, and Samantha Womble of Black Forest, CO; nephews, Buddy Hopkins of Crystal Lake, IL, Tyler Womble of Black Forest, CO and Casey Womble of Evanston, IL; great-niece, Maggie Umina of Austin, TX; step-mother, Joy Cox of Jacksonville, FL; sister-inlaw, Marilyn Hopkins of Crystal Lake, IL; along with numerous nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Hopkins; father, Verlon Cox; mother, Bonnie Shafer; nephew, Jason Montgomery and sister, Rhonda Cox.
