Service held for Betty Jo Burney

Funeral services for Betty Jo (Bonner) Burney, a Coalgate resident, were held Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor Lyle Shipley officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha, OK. Arrangements were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coal-gate.

Mrs. Burney was born October 26, 1924 to Theophilus and Cloie (Dunn) Bonner at Nixon, Coal County, Oklahoma

and passed away February 5, 2020 at Coalgate, OK at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 10 days. She graduated from Coalgate High School and then attended College. Betty worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired from Oklahoma Department of Transportation. She married Overton Love Burney in 1956. He preceded her in death in 2000.

Betty was a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, baking-especially desserts, gardening, and helping others in need.

Survivors include a son, JJ Wilson and wife Carol of Ada, OK; grandchildren, Antoinetta Hubbard and husband Tom of Mustang, OK and Christopher Wilson and wife Judy of Wayne, NJ; great-grandchildren, Antonia Hubbard and Andrew Hubbard both of Mustang, OK, Caden Wilson and Beckett Wilson, both of Wayne, NJ; sister, Theda Naylor of Coalgate, OK; nieces, Sue Porter and Jolynn Mahaffey, both of Rock Springs, WY, Dene Lacy of Oklahoma City, OK and D’Ann Rifai of Austin, TX; nephew, Jimmy Naylor of Lone Grove, OK; along with numerous other relatives and dearly loved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theophilus and Cloie (Dunn) Bonner; husband, Overton Love Burney; and sister, Freda Mae Walker.
