Karen Sue Jackson

Karen Sue Jackson was born on September 3rd, 1940 to Robert Floyd Jackson and Elsie Etoile (Rogers) Jackson in Coalgate, Oklahoma and was called home April 5th, 2020 at the age of 79. She was raised and attended school in Coldwater, Kansas until the mid 1950s and returned with her family back to Oklahoma settling in the town of Lehigh and attending high school at Coalgate. After graduating Edison High School in Tulsa in 1958, she attended Draughon’s Business School in Oklahoma City.

Karen and Dennis Hatch became a family of five with Rayland Kent, Nancy Karen, and Mary Helen Smith on August 13th, 1966 in Wichita Falls, Texas. The family grew to seven with the addition of Theresa Etoile and Kathryn Louise Hatch and the family settled on their ranch in Luther, Oklahoma.

In 1972, Karen and Dennis, with their business partner, started a small building components company, Building Concepts Ltd. For three decades Karen blazed a trail in a male dominated industry and became a force to be reckoned with on a regional and national level. Through hard work and determination Karen and Dennis were blessed to watch the business grow into a full line metal building manufacturing facility that is now three generations strong.

True to her lifelong love of travel and her adventurous spirit, Karen became a licensed private pilot and active member of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots. While on vacation in Key West, Florida, she was introduced to deep-sea fishing, igniting a passion in her that was contagious to everyone around her. She spent the next 20 years traveling, fishing and being an advocate for sports fish conservation and catch and release in the Gulf Coast, Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Central America finally settling in Mazatlán, Mexico. From small local tournaments to the infamous Bisbee, true to her competitive side, Karen loved fishing tournaments all around the Sea of Cortez. Traveling to Madeira, Portugal with her daughter Katie, she had the honor of catching and releasing a blue marlin calculated to weigh over 1000 pounds. It was the fish of her lifetime.

The only thing Karen loved more than fishing was her grandchildren! She and Dennis relocated back to Oklahoma and spent the last few years showing them unconditional love. She entertained us all with daily random texts, internet truths and the latest and greatest products according to Facebook and Instagram. Her greatest source of pride and joy was being able to see the wonderful strong young adults they have grown into and the legacy they are continuing.

Karen is preceded in death by both parents; one sister, Virginia Belle Richards, and four brothers: Charles Edmond Jackson, Greenwood (Dub) Jackson and wife, Sandy, Jack Roger Jackson and Larry Lavern Jackson.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Dennis Ralph Hatch; her son, Rayland Kent Smith and wife Teresa Sturm of Idaho Falls, Idaho; her daughters: Nancy Karen Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mary Helen Weber and husband, Steven Ray Weber of Mustang, Oklahoma; Theresa Etoile Trawick and her husband Robert Dee Trawick Jr. of Yukon, Oklahoma and Kathryn Louise Hatch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her brother, Randy, and wife Donna Jackson of Minco, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Patricia A.
