Service held for Wanda Ulene Mowdy

Funeral services for Wanda Ulene Mowdy of Lexington, OK were held Monday, July 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lexington. Burial followed at the Lexington Cemetery.

Wanda Ulene Tomlinson was born February 11, 1941 in Oklahoma City, the second of four children born to Ulyesess and Alyene (Johnston) Tomlinson and passed away July 2, 2020 at the age of 79. She was raised in the Coalgate area and attended school in Centrahoma, graduating in 1959. She then attended East Central State College in Ada, OK. In her junior year of high school she met a young man named Glenn Mowdy, who had enlisted in the U. S. Army. They remained in contact and while on leave, Glenn hitchhiked to Oklahoma so he could marry Ulene. They first made their home in Columbus, Georgia, where Glenn was stationed at Fort Benning, but returned to Oklahoma, settling in the Lexington Community. Together they raised three children, Annette, Janet and Tony. Ulene worked in the cafeteria at Lexington Public Schools and then as a teller at First State Bank in Lexington for many years. She spent several years cooking both at Purcell Hospital and Purcell Senior Citizens, and later worked at Circle W in Purcell. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and loving on her grandkids. She was a woman of great faith; a member of First Baptist Church and she loved listening to Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers and Alan Jackson. Ulene never missed a chance to go shopping and was an excellent cook, and will be forever remembered for her enchiladas, fried taters and mac-n-cheese. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Mowdy; daughter, Janet Buchanan and her parents, Ulyesess and Alyene Tomlinson.

Survivors include her daughter, Annette Hamm and husband Jerry of Lexington; her son, Tony Mowdy and wife Buffy of Lexington; son-in-law, Mack Buchanan of Wanette, OK; sister, Lawana Dansby and husband Ronald of Latta, OK; brothers, Donald Tomlinson and wife Nell of Claremore, OK and Wayne Tomlinson and wife Linda of Coalgate, OK; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
