Service Saturday for Joyce Columbine Layton

Funeral services for Joyce Columbine (Evans) Layton, a lifelong Atoka County resident, will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Rev. Bartt Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Redden Cemetery in Daisy, OK with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Layton was born March 23, 1939 to Willard and Alberta (Chitwood) Evans at Farris, OK and passed away February 13, 2022 at McAlester, OK at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 21 days. She attended Farris, Miller and Atoka Public Schools and married Louis Burr Layton December 23, 1957 in Durant, OK. They spent 46 wonderful years together before Louis’ passing in October 2003.

Joyce was an inspector for Blue Bell, worked at Atoka Hospital and home health. Her labor of love was taking care of many babies all through the years. She was a member of the Coalgate Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, visiting with family and friends, planting her roses and irises and doing yard work.

Survivors include her children, Evan Layton and wife Pam of Stringtown, OK, Kimberly Elliott and husband Keith of Blowing Rock, NC; grandchildren, Aaron Keith Elliott and wife Bridget of Blowing Rock, NC, Jacob Layton of Durant, OK, Jessica Larson and husband Cory of Sherman, TX, Julie Chavez and husband Reese of Clarita, OK, Bayle Layton and fiancé Christian Riley of Tushka, OK, and Lucas Reese of Stringtown, OK; greatgrandchildren, Timothy Elliott of Blowing Rock, NC, Beau Larson of Sherman, TX, Roslyn Reese of Stringtown, OK, and two more expected very soon; sister, Geraldine Layton of Durant; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Burr Layton; parents, Willard and Alberta (Chitwood) Evans; grandson, Weston Lee Reese; and siblings, Charles William Evans, Walter Hill Evans, Alonza Joel Evans, James Edward Evans, Arthur Sonny Evans, Winfred Evans, Susan Evelyn Blair, Helen Louise Evans, Sarah Elizabeth Brewer, Doloris Maxine Head, and twin sister, Louis Carolyn Evans.

Casketbearers will be Louie Layton, Kenny Layton, David Layton, Johnny Layton, Russell Layton, Wayne Head, Butch Evans, Walter Evans, and DeWayne Evans. Honorary bearers will be Ralph Brewster, Rob Isom and Jerry Stephens.
