Floyd Huston Gibson

Funeral services for Floyd Huston Gibson, a Coalgate resident, were held Monday, December 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Coalgate United Moethodist Church in Coalgate with Bro. David Unsell officiating. Family night was Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m. Burial was in Tushka Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate officiating. Casketbearers were Brian Davis, Robert Gregory, Greg Lovelis, Larry Rayburn, Terry Scott and Keith Weldon.
Mr. Gibson was born March 30, 1939 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma to Floyd Houston Gibson and Ollie Mary Wallis Gibson. He went home to be with the Lord December 23rd, 2025, ending a life of service and faith. He leaves a legacy as an educator, administrator, son, brother, husband, and father.
He received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Education with a minor in English from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1965, and a Master’s of Education Degree in Administration and Business Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1970, and an Administrator’s Certificate from the University of Oklahoma in 1975.
Floyd started his teaching career in 1960 in Montana. He returned to Oklahoma in 1966 and began building an extensive legacy of Education Administration across southern Oklahoma. He accepted the superintendent’s position at Stonewall in 1977. After 27 years, he retired in 2004 ending a 44-year career of dedication, service and excellence.
He was voted Oklahoma’s Superintendent of the year in 1999. The Stonewall Baseball, Softball and Little League Fields were named Gibson Field in 1989 and dedicated on August 24, 1993.
Floyd loved the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served as the Mayor of Phillips for several years after his retirement.
Floyd was a member of the Coalgate Methodist Church. Above his professional accomplishments was his devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He married Margie Dale Pate, the love of his life, on May 27th, 1960. They shared 65 years of marriage, and he cherished her deeply. Their life together was marked by faithfulness, strength, laughter, and unwavering commitment and loyalty. To know Floyd was to know how deeply he loved his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Gibson of the home; daughters Renee Hisaw and husband Steve of Bryan, Texas, and Robin Kennedy and husband Chris of Coalgate; grandchildren Kirbi Matcek and husband Matthew of Bryan, Texas; Casey Hisaw and wife Darla of Caldwell, Texas; Ridge Kennedy and wife Morgan of Oklahoma City; and Nicolas Kennedy of Dallas; great-grandchildren – Victoria Hisaw, Peyton Matcek, Kaitlyn Hisaw, Cooper Hisaw, Landon Kennedy, and Ellie Kennedy; brother Thomas Gibson; sisterin- law Aileen Gibson; brother-inlaw Jerry Pate and wife Carolyn, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother Ollie Ray, father Floyd Gibson, stepfather Lehman Ray, brother Claud Lee Gibson, and mother and father-in-law Velton and Pearl Pate.
