Coalgate Library Faces Possible Closure in January

At the Coalgate Public Library, citizens can borrow books, audiobooks, DVDs, and equipment such as a projector. It offers public Internet computers and early learning computers for children. Library cardholders can use a meeting room and its teleconferencing equipment for free. Students can use the technology and resources for papers and homework assignments. But unless the City of Coalgate, Coal County, or a local group or organization commits to paying for the building’s utilities soon, the Coalgate library will close in January.

Funeral services for Eric Dan Benson, a lifelong Atoka, OK area resident, were held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Stringtown Gymnasium with Bro. Jesse Markum and Heath Davis officiating. Burial was in Stringtown Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements. Mr. Benson was born May 14, 1985 to Toni and Rita Marie (Skaggs) Benson at Sherman, TX and passed away September 12, 2022atDenison, TX at the age of 37 years, 3 months and 29 days. Eric graduated from Stringtown, High School, attended Kiamichi Vo Tech and East Central University in Ada, OK. He married Rebecca Lynn Allen December 29, 2005 at Atoka, OK. Eric was the owner and operator of Southeastern Truck and Trailer Parts in Stringtown. He worked for several years at Stateline Truck Parts and Stan’s Truck Parts in Colbert. Eric was a member of the Old Paths Baptist Church in Atoka. He loved basketball, hunting, especially hunting large whitetails, loved to watch Disney movies and play video games with “His Girls”. Eric loved listening to Working Class Bowhunter podcast.
