October 21, 2022 Dear Editor, The letter to the editor in this paper’s October 19th edition did not share the complete numbers that make up the historical cost of library service in Coal County for the past ten years. It excludes Coal County’s portion of shared and administrative costs.

In recent decades a popular concept has emerged within the fields of civil engineering and sociology: the concept of “third places.” Home is what we call the “first place.” Work is the “second place.” “Third places” comprise the other important spaces within our communities.

Dear Editor, In his letter to the editor on October 5 regarding the library, Commissioner Nick Lee raised two points that deserve a response. The first is why the library system doesn’t pay for the utilities at the Coalgate library.

Recently, a widow phoned her local newspaper and asked how much they charged for running obituaries. “A dollar and inch,” she was told.Oh, dear,” she replied. “It will be far too expensive. My husband was six feet tall.”Ihavealwayslovedtoread….especiallynewspapers.

To the Citizens of Coal County: The article about the Coalgate Library that was in the newspaper last week, forgot to explain that the taxpayers of Coal County gave the Southeast Oklahoma Library System $561,214.50 to run our library in Coalgate for the fiscal year July 2021 until June 2022.

Dear Editor, I am a charter member of the Coal County Genealogy Society.I went to the Ada Genealogy Library for years, moved from northern Coal County to Coalgate in 1985.I started doing Genealogy at home until the Coalgate Library opened. Then I joined the Genealogy Library here.

My name is Stanley Buchanan, I’ve been around Coal County around 35 years. I am writing this on the behalf of my son, Edgar Buchanan. For some time now the evening shift of the Coalgate Police has harassed my son, Edgar, for over a year.

DOGS ADD VALUE TO A FAMILYI have written a newspaper column about families for the past twenty five years. Lots of columns. You name it and I’ve written about it…. except….the family dog.I could hardly believe it when I realized it this week. I love dogs. I have always had a family dog.

Dear Editor, I would like to bring this issue of the Coal County Library to the citizens of Coal County, who with the aid of the tax-exempt, Genealogical Society, bought and paid for the renovations of the present library building for Coal County.
