My friend Debbie told me a story about her father that warmed my heart and stopped me cold. Here’s the basic story as she related it:My father grew up in a home where his father was an alcoholic and he had to quit school to provide for his family because his dad drank most of what he earned.

Lately we have all watched in wonder and some distress as Russia’s Putin announced that he was going to invade the Republic of Ukraine. Reasons given were sort of vague. President Putin said he was going in there and get rid of the Nazi’s that he said had taken over the country.

I turned another year older St. Patrick’s Day. It seems that the older I get the more I enjoy it. One of my favorite pastors, Chuck Swindell once said, “there is something grand about old things that are still in good shape.” I agree.

In a few weeks baseball’s Spring Training is supposed to start. There’s a labor dispute that may prevent that but, regardless, in February my mind turns to baseball. It’s in my DNA .Not because I played it well but because baseball appeals to me.

Sometimes you just can’t win. I remember long ago when I was in the Navy. We had just completed a port call in Yokosuka, Japan. Its duration was two weeks but the first day we pulled out I saw this real long line of sailors on the hanger deck.
