Welcome back to Eyewitness News. It’s time for a check on sports with our sports anchor, Tim Jones. Tim, what’s happening in your world? Thanks, Tina. Love your purple medical mask, by the way. Matches your shoes. Howdy, everybody. A lot to get to in today’s jam-packed look at sports.

It’s obvious I have absolutely too much time on my hands. At age 84, my usual springtime routine involves PA announcing baseball, softball and track for Carl Albert, Choctaw and Harrah, all the while taking notes in my spare time to write a sports story for a variety of newspapers.

It was one of those nights. As soon as one child was asleep, it seemed like another needed mama to blow a stuffy nose or something to soothe a raspy cough. Daniel had a lack of sleep and was fighting the cold himself, so I hated to bother him too much.

At my age I’ve seen a lot of things happen. One of the things happened 40 years ago. Mount St. Helen erupted. Wow! What a mess that was but I would not be surprised if more than a few have no knowledge of it. It really impressed me. Dumping ash all over the USA— even here in Oklahoma.

The coronavirus epidemic has several parallels to the Spanish influenza epidemic that ravaged the world between 1918 and 1920, burning out finally in autumn of its third year. By then, it had killed far more people than World War I. Many people knew someone who had died.

The first time we met, I couldn’t stand you. Isn’t it funny how one of the greatest love stories of all time started out like a bad rom-com? I was young, and my little world was tightly controlled by my conservative parents. Breakfast was a dairy-soaked bowl of whole grain oats.

Quote of the Week…..“When I was a kid, my parents taught me to not believe everything I saw on TV. Now I have to teach them to not believe everything they see on Facebook.”

Allen has a long and colorful history. The earlier Cold Springs name came long ago when settlers heading west passed through this area on their way to (where else?) further out west. Many stopped here because of the cold springs. Some simply stayed a bit, camping on the river.
