Read more5 Graders at Tupelo Elementary School began their new school year in a very cool way-they built air conditioners! Through a grant provided by the National Weather Service in Norman, OK, that 5 Grade teacher Jill Brown received, students carefully cut and crafted their air conditioners using simple styrofoam ice chests, pvc pipe, and fans. Each day students place a large chunk of ice into their styrofoam chest. The air from their fan blows across the ice and out through the pvc pipe and into the classroom!

Read moreCoalgate High School students have the opportunity throughout the course of their Junior and Senior year to take classes concurrently. Students are enrolled in two schools simultaneously. Students gain exposure to the academic challenges of college while in their supportive high school environment, earning transcripted college credit at the time they successfully pass the course. Coalgate works with several colleges and universities to allow students to select a curriculum best suited to their needs. Carrie Walkup, high school librarian, oversees the students enrolled in these classes.
