Funeral services for Bernice (Williams) Walkup, a Coalgate resident, were held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’ Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Johnny D. Ward officiating. Burial was in McCarty Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walkup was born March 10, 1932 to Wilson and Fern (Baker) Williams in Coal County, Oklahoma and passed away January 25, 2023 at Coalgate, OK at the age of 90 years 10 months and 15 days. She attended school at Pine/Legal. Bernice was a school bus driver while living in Hobbs, NM, worked as a seamstress at Wrangler, was an aide at the nursing home and also was a rancher. She married James Eule Humphrey and he preceded her in death in 1985. She later married Joe Winston Walkup and he preceded her in death in 2007. Bernice was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star while living in Hobbs, NM. She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels, liked to play bingo, go to casinos and fish. Her favorite times were spent raising her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Jimmy Humphrey and wife Brenda of Coalgate; daughter, ElizabethAnn and Charlie Cummins of Dixmont, Maine; grandchildren, Bryan Freas and wife Amanda of Paradise, TX, Jennifer Chairez and husband Mike, Misty Freas all of Coalgate, Jamie Humphrey of Pampa, TX and Spike Eaves and wife Leslie of Atoka, OK; twelve greatgrandchildren; nine greatgreat- grandchildren; sister, Tammy Weaver of Duncan, OK and sisterin- law, Gloria Williams of Coalgate, OK.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Eule Humphrey and Joe Winston Walkup; parents, Wilson and Fern (Baker) Williams; siblings, Helen, Christine, Vera, Pete, Cubby, Opal, Loretta, J. W., Maurice, W. C., Betty Mae and Jackie. Casketbearers were Nicholas Freas, Shelton Nichols, Shawn Cunningham, Austin Hernandez, Brandon Lawson, and Mike Chairez. Honorary bearer was Michael Eaves.
