Candy Lynn Hudson

Candy Lynn Hudson of Denison, Texas, passed away on November 3, 2023, at Texoma Medical Center following a recent cancer diagnosis. Candy was born on May 12, 1954, in Ada, Oklahoma to Charles and Johnarline Hudson of Coalgate, OK. Like all of the Hudson kids, her first job was working at Hudson’s Big Country Store. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated from East Central Oklahoma State University in Ada, OK with her Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education. She taught school in Maysville, OK before moving to Denison in 1977, and then taught for several years at Denison High School before pivoting to selling real estate in the 1980s. She was the Rookie Agent of the Year for the Plano, TX office of Henry S. Miller in 1984.

Candy returned to education in 1991 and worked as a Reading Specialist at Hendrick Middle School and Clark High School in Plano until she retired in 2013 to care for her aging mother in Coalgate for several years. She began teaching again at Durant (OK) Middle School where she taught Special Education classes from 2018 through September 2023.

Candy had a big heart, and she was very generous with the people in her life. She loved Big, and she always loved you More. Her proudest life accomplishment was her children, Bethany and Ben. Her seven grandchildren brought her the greatest joy, and she loved being their ‘Dede’ – family holidays and summer sleepovers were extra-special times that she spent with her precious grandkids.

Candy enjoyed traveling to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and to Las Vegas, which she visited almost every summer including this past July. She also enjoyed attending many concerts and shows at the Choctaw Casino Grand Theater, most recently seeing her favorite comedian, Steve Harvey. Candy will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and she would want everyone to focus on memories of happy times they shared together. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Shelby Hudson of Edmond, OK and uncles Harold Hudson of Denison and Coyle DeMoss of Bells, TX. Survivors include her daughter Bethany Hobbs and husband Brian; son Ben Waller and wife Alyssa; grandchildren Kaylin Waller, Madison Waller, Atticus Hobbs, Tucker Hobbs, Carter Waller, Scarlett Hobbs, and Eliza Hobbs, all of Allen, TX; brothers John Hudson and wife Janet of Edmond, OK, Steve Hudson and wife Linda of North Richland Hills, TX, Davis Hudson and wife Lisa of Edmond, OK, and sister Holly Hudson Rhoades and husband Gary of Nixa, MO. Also survived by her uncle L.A. Hudson and aunt Dorothy of Allen, TX, and aunt Marianne DeMoss of Bells, TX, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life memorial service is planned for Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 2pm at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 North Travis Street, Sherman, TX. Memorial contributions can be made in Candy’s memory to honor her legacy as an educator to the Shelby Hudson Memorial Football Scholarship with the Edmond OK Public Schools Foundation, or to the Johnarline Moseley Hudson Memorial Scholarship at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK.
