Funeral services for David Dwight Stiles, a Coalgate resident, will be held Wednesday (today), December 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Mr. Danny Ward officiating. Burial will be in Woodman Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stiles was born August 8, 1943 to Claburn LaMarcus and Juanita (Franklin) Stiles in Farris, OK and passed away December 4, 2020 at Oklahoma City at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 26 days. He graduated from Coalgate High School and attended Haskell Indian Nation University studying to become a butcher until he was drafted to Vietnam.

He served our country proudly as a soldier, welder and expert rifleman from October 1965 to October 1966. He was commended for helping develop “a revolutionary new speed shifting technique for towed howitzers.” Upon returning home from Vietnam, David became a master carpenter and would travel across the United States, building commercial and residential properties. He loved the adventures he had while on the road and the memories he made with his friends and brothers. David never knew a stranger and always made sure those around him were happy and taken care of, whether it be a place to lay your head or money to get you through a hard time. He could light up a room with his smile, could spin a good tale, and never met a woman he didn’t love. David found the beauty in the people and world around him, even when others may not. He was a great father, friend, uncle and brother and will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Jon David Stiles of California; daughters, Heather Thompson and husband Doug of Edmond, OK, Kristy Hall and husband Darren of Oklahoma City and Diana Williams of Coalgate; grandchildren, Austin Russell of Edmond, Dalten, Kayden and Daven Hall of Oklahoma City, and Mati and Ernest Trevor Smith of Coalgate; great-grandson, Leo Russell of Edmond; brother, J. C. Stiles and wife Sandy of Coalgate; sister, Linda Sue Wilson and husband Gary of Coalgate; sister-in-law, Carol Stiles of Coalgate; brother-in-law, Doug Ward of Coalgate.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Paul Stiles, Willie Stiles, Betty Ward, Barbara Layton and Billy Stiles; grandson, Clayton Russell and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends that he loved dearly.

Casketbearers will be Jamie Ward, Chris Stiles, Jared Stiles, Chuck Loudermilk, Tommy Wood and Claburn James Callicoat. Honorary bearers will be Larry Booker, Roy Don Blackmon, Bob Cody, Eddie Layton, Harry Farris and Jimmy Velvet.
