Graveside services for Kathern Lorain (Chester) Cox, a Coalgate resident, were held Friday, December 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Moore Cemetery with Mr. Kendal Knight officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate.

Mrs. Cox was born November 16, 1940 to Leonard Lonzo and Leona Maudie (Ferrell) Chester at Lawton, OK and passed away December 1, 2020 at her home in Coalgate at the age of 80 years and 15 days. She graduated from Manitou High School in 1959 and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Cameron University then obtained her Master’s Degree from Northeastern University in 1980. Kathern was a school counselor and a counselor in the prison system in Chico, TX. She married Gerald Wayne Cox May 1, 1959 in Manitou, OK. He preceded her in death July 15, 2017. Kathern was of the Southern Baptist faith. She loved teaching children how to read.

Survivors include a son, Craig Cox and wife Suzan of Coalgate; brother, James William Chester and wife Clara of Norman, OK; granddaughter, Sarah Knight and husband Kendal of Rhome, TX; grandson, Aaron Cox of Coalgate; great-granddaughters, Khloe and Victoria Knight of Rhome, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bret Wayne Cox; and brother, Donald Chester.

Casketbearers were Larry Evans, Aaron Cox, Craig Cox, Kendal Knight, and Roger Hedgecock; Honorary bearers were Dr. James Chester and James Chester.
