Mary Elizabeth (McAusland) Layton

Memorial service for Mary Elizabeth (McAusland) Layton, a longtime Coalgate resident, will be held Friday, December 19, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor David Unsell officiating. Honorary bearers will be Harlan Sale, Lester Walley, Joshua Sale, Jerad Mixon, Mason Gaylor and Cal Birchfield. Brown’s Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. (Please wear Christmas attire to honor her love for the Christmas season.)
Mary Elizabeth (McAusland) Layton better known as “Pinky”, was a longtime Coalgate resident. She was born on January 8, 1945, to James and Hester (Wolfe) McAusland, at their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mary passed away on December 13, 2025, at her home in Coalgate at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 5 days. She attended school at Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City in her early years then went on to receive her Associates Degree in Nursing at Murray State College. Mary worked at the Coalgate Nursing Home and Valley View Hospital in Ada. She married Wilson “Bob” Felix Layton on May 27, 1978, at Coalgate. They were blessed with 45 years together before his passing on January 2, 2024. Mary was a member of the Coalgate First Baptist Church where she was baptized. She enjoyed sewing/ crafting, puzzles, crossword puzzles, crafting, tending to her house plants, reading, and watching cooking and crime shows on TV. Mary loved to learn new things. She loved her precious dog, Sammy Jo. Mary’s favorite times were spent with her family especially her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children, Enessa Renteria and Erik Hawkins of Austin, TX, Barbara Wunschel and husband Ray of Heath Springs, SC, Kevin Standridge of Coalgate, Michelle Birchfield and husband Neil of Rattan, OK, Tanya Branam and husband Rick of Coalgate, and daughter-inlaw, Gail Standridge of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Harlan Sale and wife Sabrina of Yukon, OK, Lester Walley and wife April of Del City, OK, Joshua Sale of Camden, SC, Jerad Mixon of Coalgate, Teran Wood and husband Taylor of The Woodlands, TX, Kyrie Standridge of Muskogee, Megan Birchfield of McAlester, Aubrey Morrison and husband Chris of Tulsa, Rachel Birchfield of Ada, and Cal Birchfield of Rattan, OK; twenty-five greatgrandchildren and one on the way; sister, Patricia Townsend of Lehigh, OK; special dog, Sammy Jo; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many dearly loved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hester (Wolfe) McAusland; husband, Wilson “Bob” Felix Layton; sons, Michael Eugene Standridge and Roy Dean Standridge; grandson, Mason Lee Gaylor; siblings, Mozell Counterman, James McAusland, Jr., Roy McAusland, Merid McAusland, Alice McAusland, Betty Stanford and Louise Bozyk.
