Funeral services for Odis Elgin Shipman, a Coalgate resident, will be held Wednesday, (today), April 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Coalgate Methodist Church with Pastor Lyle Shipley officiating. Burial will be in Lehigh Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shipman was born October 2, 1931 to Carlton Cress and Alice Julian (Gallegly) Shipman at Kenefic, OK. He passed away April 20, 2023 at Atoka, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 17 days. Odis attended the United States Military College. He worked many positions throughout his life. Odis was a Pawn Broker, Bail Bondsman, Real Estate Broker and a retired Postman. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Odis married Dellie Pearl Jackson in McKinney, Texas. They spent over 50 years together. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner out of the India Temple in Oklahoma City, member of the VFW, DAV and American Legion. Odis liked shooting guns, gardening, watching Western shows and visiting with people.

Survivors include his children, Brenda Lynett Shipman of Coalgate, OK, Curtis M. Shipman of Sedalia, Missouri and Martin G. Shipman of Rawlings, Wyoming; grandchildren, Sherry, Lisa, B. J., Chris, John, Eddie, Mark, Curtis, Duane, Sarah, Jayden, Darrell, Billy, Christopher, Bruce and Dawn Marie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dellie Pearl Shipman; parents, Carlton Cross and Alice Julian (Gallegly) Shipman; paternal grandparents, Alfred Shipman and Alice Cress Shipman; children, Troy Elgin Shipman and Donald Duane Shipman; siblings, Lloyd Shipman, Opal Lewis, and Sarah Virginia Kratzer; grandchild, Odis Shipman.

Casketbearers will be Bruce Lee Shipman, John Miller, Wyatt Munholland, Nahilini Billy, Phillip Billy, and Marvin Estes. Honorary bearers will be Danny West, Tommy West, Hopper Jackson, Stan Jackson, and Bill Langdon.
