Service held for Jo Ann Maxey

Funeral services for Jo Ann Maxey, an Atoka, OK resident (lived in Oklahoma City for 10 years and then moved back to Atoka for the last 22 years), were held Friday, May 7, 2021 at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Bro. Kenneth May officiating, assisted by Katrina Hanson. Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Maxey was born November 20, 1960 to Lester Andrew and Ella Joy (Taylor) Dillard at Coalgate, OK and passed away May 3, 2021 at Atoka at the age of 60 years, 5 months and 13 days. She graduated Atoka High School and married Joe Maxey at Wilson Community in Atoka County. Jo Ann was a housewife and homemaker, worked for Blue Bell in Coalgate, Michael’s Warehouse in OKC and worked for Choctaw Nation. She was a Christian and loved to attend church. Jo Ann attended Baptist Pentecostal and Victory Life in Atoka. She was a proud member of The Choctaw Nation. She enjoyed drag racing, fishing, painting knitting, photography, (she was the family photographer) horses, and loved to sell and trade at Coalgate Park trade days.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Maxey of the home in Atoka; son, Heath Maxey of the home in Atoka; step-children, Chris Maxey of Madill, and Tracey Stephens and husband Randy of Byng, OK; mother, Ella Joy Gray; siblings, Kenneth Dillard of Atoka, Jimmy Dillard and wife Lisa of Oklahoma City, Kim McCaslin and husband Darrin of Antlers, and Blake Miles and wife Bre; brothers-in-law, Jarvis Maxey of Madill, OK and Houston Maxey and wife Donna of Ft. Bragg, CA; nieces and nephews, Marissa Walton of Atoka, Cari Jo Shelton and husband Chris of Antlers, OK, Justin Dillard of Mustang, OK, Taylor Rayburn and husband Jeffrey of Deville, LA and Stephanie Dillard of Oklahoma City; special great-niece, Kimberly Cooksey and other great-nieces and nephews; along with cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
