Service Saturday for Joke Wood

Funeral services for Delmer “Joke” Clayton Wood, a long time Coalgate resident, will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Mr. Bill Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wood was born July 26, 1926 to Elmer and Ethen Gertrude (Davis) Wood in Parker, OK and passed away May 15, 2019 at Coalgate at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 19 days. He attended Parker School and proudly served in the U. S. Army, serving in the World War II. Joke married Norma Jean Rankin August 14, 1954 in Antlers, OK. She preceded him in death August 4, 2006. He worked and retired from the Army Ammunition Base in Savanna, OK as a Quality Assurance Inspector. Joke attended the Cottonwood Baptist Church. His hobbies included playing golf, fishing and selling horses. He also enjoyed raising cattle.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Price and husband Rod of Clovis, CA; sons, Del Wood and wife Sherri of Coalgate, David Wood and wife Tiffany of Corona Delmar, CA and Gary Davis of Kentucky; grandchildren, Dara Priest, Vincent Wood, Daniel Wood, Victor Wood, Spencer Wood, Alexis Wood, David Wood Jr., and Dylan Wood; great-grandchildren, Elana Pearson, and Vincent Wood, Jr.; sister, Delores Miller and husband Randy of Broken Bow, OK; brother, Luther Wood and wife, Barbara of Coalgate; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Terry Wood; grandsons, Matthew Thomas

Wood and Justin Dale Wood; brothers, Judge Wood, Dane Wood, Ed Wood and Pauley Wood; and sister, Nell Smith.

Casketbearers will be Travis Smith, Vincent Wood, David Wood, Jr., Dylan Wood, Rick Woods, Phillip Guinn, Bobby Epperson, and Paul Hooe.
