Service today for Lee Roy Mathis

Funeral services for Lee Roy Mathis, a Coalgate resident, will be held Wednesday (today) July 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate. Burial will be in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Lee Roy was born October 18, 1945 to J. D. and Venus May (Smallwood) Mathis at Atoka, OK and passed away July 4, 2019 at his home in Atoka County at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 16 days. He attended and graduated from Wapanucka High School and then attended Okmulgee Technical School for Automatics. Lee Roy owned and operated his own body shop in Coalgate, was also a mechanic, rancher and farmer. He proudly served in the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. Lee Roy was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing bargain shopping and westerns. He won a Star Farmer award with the FFA.

Survivors include nephews, John Lee Mathis and Allen Mathis; and niece Dianna Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John Henry Mathis and Eugene Mathis.

Casketbearers will be Stormy Lovinggood, Bill Johnston, Drew Dennis, Jimmy Don Toney and Terry McCurry.
