Funeral services for Virgil Lee Ennis

Funeral services for Virgil Lee Ennis, a Wardville resident, were held Monday, December 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Rev. Kenny Adams officiating. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’ Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ennis was born on December 02, 1931, to Benjamin Franklin and Nellie Mae (Hoffman) Ennis, at Mowdy, OK. He passed away on December 14, 2025 at Durant, OK at the age of 94 years and 12 days. Virgil attended Mowdy School before graduating from Coalgate High School and going to Okmulgee Technical for a year. He was an electrical technician for AT&T.

Virgil proudly served his country in The United States Army where he fought in the Korean War. He married Dorothy Mae Lanoy on January 5, 1957 at the Coalgate Methodist Church. They spent 67 wonderful years together before her passing. Virgil was a member of South Agnew Church of God in Oklahoma City and Nazarene Church of Coalgate. He enjoyed taking care of his cows, working with the tractor, reading, and having fun with his grandsons.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Gail Ennis and husband Gary Lynn Pogue of Oklahoma City, OK; grandson, Travis Lee Pogue of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Zelpha Mae Miller of Elmore City, OK; brother-in-law, Frankie Hunt and wife Barbara of Atoka, OK; sister-in-law, Pat Lanoy of Yukon, OK; along with many other dearly loved friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Nellie Mae (Hoffman) Ennis; wife, Dorothy Ennis; brother, Richard Lee Ennis; sister, Artie Mae (Ennis) Shephard; grandson, Cody Lynn Pogue; and brothers-inlaw, Henry Shephard and Bill Miller. Serving as casketbearers were Gary Walton, Dillon Walton, Henry Rhyne, Jacob Rhyne, Jim Rhyne, and Darrell Mills. Honorary casketbearers were, Christy Rhyne, George Mills, Charlie Hall, Roger Wilson, Jack Wilson, and Frankie Hunt.
