My mother sometimes got onto me for daydreaming so much. I had a teacher or two over at Stonewall that agreed with her too. She always admonished me to quit my daydreaming. As though one could. Like most people I think I was meant to travel. Go places. Someplace where they speak different languages. Dress funny. Eat weird foods. Places so far away you might need to get on an airplane or a ship to get there. But to get on an airplane means going through x-rays, being patted down. Getting a passport. Well sure. Pat and I, being the forever optimists, renewed our passports some time back. I guess we did want to be squeezed into an uncomfortable seat and be hurtled at speeds at nearly the speed of sound to one of these strange places.

Coalgate High School cross country competed at the October 23 regional meet in Waurika. They came up a little short as a team to qualify — but freshman Reese Sallee qualified as an individual. Reese will run in the 3A state meet at Edmond Santa Fe School in Edmond, OK, on Saturday, October 30, at noon.

Gardener Wayne Welty, a Coalgate resident, passed away October 22, 2021 at Coalgate at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 22 days. Gardner was born June 30, 1944 to Gardner George and Louise Zelma (Self) Welty at Coalgate, OK. He graduated from Coalgate High School in 1962 and then attended some college. Gardner was self-employed doing home improvements. He was a Christian, saved a few days before his passing. Gardner loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed being with friends and enjoyed life.
