The Board of County Commissioners of Coal County met for a regular meeting on Monday, November 25th, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. in the conference room of the County Administration Building. Nick Lee called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Roll was called by Lee. Those present were: Nick Lee, Chairman, Kelly Campbell, Vice-chairman, Jon Fortner, Member, and Eugina Loudermilk, County Clerk. Mary Eddings gave the invocation. Guests present (according to sign-in sheet) were: Terry Martin-Coal County Health Dept, Ronnie Ennis, Rick Ellis-Tupelo RFD, Easton Crow-911 Director, LaDonna Flowers-Court Clerk and Naomi McCollum Fortner made a motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Campbell seconded. Fortner, Campbell and Lee approved. Campbell made a motion to approve payroll for November 16-30. Fortner seconded. Campbell, Fortner and Lee approved. Funeral services for JC Stiles, a Coalgate resident, will be held Wednesday (today), December 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Bro. Eddie Hogue officiating, assisted by Bill Thomas. Burial will be in Woodman Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate. Dinner will be served at Cottonwood Baptist Church prior to the funeral.

Ashley L. Olvera, 27, and Desirae D. Mazur, 28, both of Coalgate, have been charged with felony child endangerment for placing Olvera’s 4-year-old daughter in a vehicle driven by Mazur who was driving under the influence. Olvera was a passenger in the vehicle.
