Dolphus Edward Archer
Funeral services for Dolphus Edward Archer, a longtime Tupelo resident, were held Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Bro. Craig Cochran officiating. Burial was in Byrd’s Prairie Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Archer was born to John Clarance and Lillie LaVada (Traylor) Archer on December 29, 1940 at Tupelo, OK. He passed away on July 30, 2026 at the age of 85 years and 7 months. He attended Tupelo Schools.
In his earlier years, Dolphus worked for Gallop Construction Company, building flood control dams. Later he worked for several different construction companies as a foreman and heavy equipment operator. Dolphus was best known for his talent to operate a blade.
He married Ruby Lee Reed on August 26, 1960 at Coalgate, OK. They have been blessed with 65 years and 11 months together.
Dolphus enjoyed taking care of his game roosters, coaching little league baseball, making many lifelong friends, watching TV, especially old westerns, and after his retirement in 2014, he began to enjoy reading. He loved his many dog companions, especially Clint.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Lee Archer of the home in Tupelo, OK; brothers-inlaw, Joe Davis of Stonewall, OK, Ed Reed and wife Carol of Coalgate, OK; sistersin- law, Eva Armer of Coalgate, OK, Brenda Coffee and husband Jimmy of Coalgate, OK; nieces and nephews, Edward Reeder, Kimberly Reeder, Michelle Blair, David Gibson, Tonya Lowery, Brian Davis, Rita Armer, Stacie Woody and husband Robert, Heather Wood and husband Eddie, Joel Coffee and wife Kara, Kenneth Coffee; along with great nieces and nephews.
Dolphus was preceded in death by his parents, J C and Lilly Archer; brother, Kenneth Archer; sisters, Vivian Gibson and husband Tom, LaVerne Davis; and nephew, Jody Davis.
Casketbearers were Edward Reeder, David Gibson, Brian Davis, John Thomas Jones, Andrew Blair and Ethan Blair. Honorary bearers were Casey Hawkins, Jack Wilson, David Battles, Johnny Mack Hampton, Brad Gould, Joe Davis, Allan Raw and Clint Hendrix.
