A longtime Coalgate resident, Michael Roy Baumert, passed from this earth Friday, February 13, 2026 in Oklahoma City at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 13 days. He was born to Edwin and Olga (Gustafson) Baumert on June 30, 1936 at Coalgate.

Mike served his country, enlisting in the Navy after graduating Coalgate High school Class of ‘55. Later in life he earned his degree in forestry at EOSC in Wilburton. Mike wore many hats through the years in his jobs. The Coalgate Post Office is where he retired as the custodian after 20 plus years.

Mike enjoyed life to the fullest, always a smile on his face and a whistle or hum of a familiar song. He also loved fishing, flea markets, yard sales and camping at McGee Creek with is wife and family.

Mike married Dortha June (Powell) Baumert June 30, 1989 in Durant, OK. They were married 36 years until her passing January 2, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Baumert; parents, Edwin and Olga Baumert; sisters, Mary Carolyn, Ruth Moore; brothers, Charles Baumert and twin Pat Baumert; daughter, Michelle Baumert; great-grandson, Diesel Cold Baumert; brothers-in-law, Steve McEntire, and Clyde Marks; sister-in-law, Katsuko Baumert; and step-son, Tony Watson.

No service at this time, but a Memorial is planned at a later date.
