Zelda Jane Perry, age 79, a Coalgate, OK resident (Coal County), was born June 17, 1942 in Tipton, OK. Zelda passed away Monday, April 4, 2022, at her home. She was a retired Registered Nurse. Zelda was fiercely independent, and cherished her freedom during her golden years on her small slice of land in Coalgate, which she called her piece of heaven. She enjoyed making and selling her jewelry, reading books, watching movies, taking care of her animals and spending time at the casinos.

RETIREMENT TIME! A retirement assembly was held Monday, May 16, at the Coalgate School cafeteria for seven people who have served the school, thousands of students and the community for a combined total of 175-1/2 years! From left – Larry Lee, custodian, 15- 1/2 years; Phillip Lee, maintenance, 24 years; Pennie Shipley, 3 grade teacher, 11 years; Linda Strunk, high school math teacher, 52 years (she received a standing ovation); Tammy Hedgecock, bus driver, 21 years; Lisa Girten, 1 grade teacher, 20 years; Deloris Hedgecock, paraprofessional, 32 years.
