National Children’s

National Children’s Dental Health month took place in the month of February. Ms. Shockey used this as her opportunity to promote the benefits of good oral health to her students in PreK through fifth grade. Many of us take for granted the benefits of taking good care of our teeth; however, it is important that we inform children and reinforce the message regularly. Tooth decay is the most common of chronic diseases among children. Ms. Shockey discussed the benefits of brushing and flossing our teeth. Students were given toothbrushes to take home. Ms. Shockey demonstrating the proper way to brush teeth.

Atoka Coal Baptist Association continues mission support in Guererro

A missions team of four from Atoka Coal Association witnessed a move of the Lord in January. During a nine-day mission trip to Altamirano, a city in Guerrero, Mexico, this team experienced 164 people make professions of faith in Christ.

Service held for Laura Smith

Funeral services for Laura Mae (Arterberry) Smith, a Durant resident, raised in the Farris community and later spent 25 years in Coalgate, were held Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Cecil Mackey officiating. Burial was in Farris Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.
