Two new early warning storm sirens installed in Clarita-Olney area

The Clarita Fire Department has completed the installation of two early warning storm sirens (commonly called tornado sirens) in the Clarita fire district of the Clarita-Olney area. The sirens are installed on 50-foot poles, and during threatening weather conditions will sound approximately three miles. They are equipped with solar panels that keep the batteries charged.

Coalgate firefighters save the day when nursing home loses power

Firefighters never know what a day’s work will entail. In addition to responding to fires, explosions, vehicle accidents and medical emergencies, they clean fire trucks and service equipment, they talk to groups (including children) about the importance of fire safety, take part in physical fitness training, and sponsor barbeques to raise money for their department.

No Coal County Fair this year

After months of discussion, planning, and implementing what would have been one of the best county fairs in several years, the Coal County Fair Board has sadly made the decision to cancel this year’s county fair. The board felt that it would be in the best interest of children and volunteers as well as visitors’ health to not conduct the county fair and its activities.

Service held for Timothy Lee Hefley

Funeral services for Timothy Lee Hefley, a Coalgate resident, were held Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor David Unsell officiating. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.
