Jimmy Standridge was one of the best sharpshooters in that era of Coalgate HS basketball. He led the Wildcats to two stunning upsets in the 1955 state playoffs by upsetting Colbert 54-51 in spite of All-Stater Arlen Clark who finished with 32 points. Jimmy countered with 33 by scoring 12 field goals and nine free throws to lead the Wildcats to the stunning upset.

Following a January 17 traffic stop for speeding, a 23-yearold Canyon, TX man was arrested for falsely personating another to create liability. The crime is punishable by a fine of $10,000 and ten years imprisonment.

A Coalgate man remains in jail this week following a 911 call on February 13 about a domestic involving weapons at the Levy Annex. Officers from the Coalgate Police Department, Coal County Sheriff’s Office and Choctaw Lighthorse Police Department responded to the call.

Sharp minds for little children A first grade school teacher had 25 students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the first half of a wellknown proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It’s hard to believe these were actually done by first graders.
