Read moreKINDNESS IN ACTION — The Coal County Farm Bureau women’s committee presented 227 pairs of eyeglasses to the Coalgate Lions Club on November 16. The glasses were collected during a local donation drive and will be given to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center where they will be sorted and cleaned and their prescription strengths determined. Donated glasses are packaged and stored for future vision missions in the United States as well as foreign countries. They are given free of charge to children and adults who may otherwise not have the means to obtain eyeglasses. Elected officials in attendance were Rep Eddy Dempsey (Garvin), Rep Jim Grego (Rep-17), Rep Justin Humphrey (Lane), Sen David Bullard (Durant), Sen George Burns (Pollard) and Commissioner Ron Boyer (Bryan County). Guest speakers and presentations were given by Chief Gary Batton and his science staff from the Water Resource Department of the Choctaw Nation. A warm welcome was extended to Secretary of Energy & Environment Ken Wagner who has fallen in love with southeastern Oklahoma.
