Charity Rose Luman Chastain

Funeral services for Charity Rose Luman Chastain, a McAlester resident, were held Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor Larry Luman officiating, assisted by Rev. Rajeev “Roger” Rohatgi. Burial was in Riley Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Charity was born June 30, 1976 to Larry Duane and Loretta Rose (Martin) Luman at McAlester, OK and was swept away into her Savior’s arms on December 29, 2020 at McAlester, OK at the age of 44 years, 5 month and 29 day. She was the first of four children and was a bright falling star, beautiful and too quickly gone. Charity attended and graduated from Atoka High School in 1995. She was a housewife and married Larry Michael Chastain on April 20, 1998 at Day Spring Church in Atoka. They spent 22 wonderful years together.

Charity was a sister, mother, noni, wife and beloved daughter. She loved being a noni, taking care of animals and was an avid reader. Her heart was one of the strongest forces in the world. She never met a stray that didn’t find a home, even if only temporarily; cats, dogs, opossums, and people. Many of those closest to her were strays when they came through the door and family before they left. She was shy about seeking friendships but those that found her, found her fiercely loyal and true. “Some of our greatest moment were with friends who became family and family who were the most faithful friends.”

Survivors include her husband, Larry Michael Chastain of McAlester; daughters, Haili Michelle Luman and P.J. Cottrell of Atoka, Autumn Rose Chastain of McAlester; son, Cameron Chastain of McAlester; parents, Larry Duane and Loretta Rose (Martin) Luman of Atoka; grandchildren, Ella Rose Scott of Williams, AZ, Jasper Creed Cottrell, and Lincoln Ryatt Cottrell, both of Atoka; sister, Heather Rohatgi and husband Roger of Richmond, TX; nephews, Jordan Ryver Rohatgi and Skyler Reign Rohatgi; brother, Jeremiah Luman and wife, Jissica of Stringtown; nephew, Jett Luman; brother, Jason Luman of Atoka; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Kay Jones; maternal grandfather, Lon Martin and paternal grandparents, Hershall and Georgia Luman.

Casketbearers were Jason Luman, Jeremiah Luman, Billy Smithart, Travis Smithart, Cameron Chastain, and Randy Scott. Honorary bearers were Rox Kerby, Paul (P.J.) Cottrell and Timothy C. Gregory.
