Mary Sue McElhaney

Funeral services for Mary Sue McElhaney, an Avery, TX resident were held June 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka with Mr. Ron Marble officiating. Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McElhaney was born on January 4, 1953, to Virgil and Angie Mae (Brewer) Smith, at Ft. Wayne, IN and passed away on May 27, 2025 at Texarkana, TX at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 23 days. She attended school in Bryant, AR. Mary was a housewife. She married Lloyd Dean McElhaney in 1970 in Bauxite, AR. Mary was a longtime member of Church of Christ. She enjoyed children, especially the ones in her Bible study class, and animals, mostly cats.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Dean McElhaney of Avery, TX; son, Kenneth McElhaney of Dickson, OK; daughter, Angie McElhaney of Tushka, OK; granddaughter, Emiley McElhaney; siblings, Virgie Lattin of Bauxite, AR, David Lee Smith, Dorothy Briner of Heber Springs, AR and Janice Phillips of Haskell, AR; along with numerous other dearly loved relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Angie Mae (Brewer) Smith; brothers, James K. Smith, John Earl Smith and sister, Joyce Lynn Welch.

Casketbearers were Gary Guinn, family and friends.
