Service today for Janice Louise Cathey

Funeral services for Janice Louise (Hughes) Cathey, an Atoka resident, will be held Wednesday, (today) December 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Bro. Joey Lansdale officiating. Burial will be in Non Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cathey was born August 7, 1940 to Emit Riley and Cleetie Ester (Hammons) Hughes at Non, OK and passed away November 21, 2021 at Atoka, OK at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 14 days. She attended Non School, Oak Grove School and Coalgate High School. Janice was a seamstress at Blue Bell and waitress at Roland’s Bar. She married Paul Eugene Stiles in 1956. They were married for 19 years and had 5 children. She later married the love of her life, Jerald “Audie” Orville Cathey on May 22, 2006. They enjoyed 7 wonderful years together before he passed away on September 19, 2013. Janice was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed dancing, going to concerts and drinking Diet Dr. Pepper. She loved all her cats and dogs. Janice loved tending to her flower garden where she grew sunflowers, daisies, roses and morning glories, She loved the beauty of nature and liked to crochet, camp at the lake on weekends and listen to music. Her most precious times were spent with her family.

Survivors include her children, Paula Bottoms and husband Glenn of Grand Bay, AL, Rhonda Orr of Atoka, Angela Kenyon and husband Frank of Caddo, OK; fourteen grandchildren; twentyseven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sister, Donna Lou Smith of Dallas, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many dear and loved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emit Riley and Clettie Esther (Hammons) Hughes; husbands, Paul Eugene Stiles and Aduie Cathey; children, Anita Carolyn Spivey, and Marlon Stiles; grandchildren, Daniel and Colby; sisters, Flossie Lentine Jones, Frankie Christian Shepherd, Sylvia Cathleen Powell, Drucilla Mae Cox, and Patricia Alma Mooney; and brother, Arlie Gene Hughes.

Casketbearers will be Karlos Argo, Bobby Spivey, Jason Stiles, Tyler Stiles, Alex Ugalde, and Bryan Layton. Honorary bearers will be Glenn Bottoms, Frank Kenyon, Jess Orr and Donnie Mooney.
