Coal County Turns Republican

Did you ever think you would live to see the day that Coal County would become a Republican County? Probably not, especially if you’ve lived here a few years. When I moved here in 1988, to say you were Republican was about as bad as saying you were Communist. A big percentage of residents were what was referred to as “Die Hard Democrats.” In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, the Republican Party of Coal County numbered less than 90 at that time. The late Kenneth McEntire was chairman of the Coal County Republican Party and held that position for a number of years.

A 62-year-old man from New Palestine, IN, was arrested in Coalgate shortly before 6:00 a.m. February 19. He was booked into the Coal County jail for possession of controlled drug with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
