County sales tax receipts reported

Coalgate posted a small decrease in July’s sales tax revenue receiving $55,308.27 compared to last July’s $57,128.39. Tupelo was also down a small amount receiving $4,733.26 compared to last year’s $4,839.47. Lehigh received $705.97 down from last year’s $967.64.

Coal County COVID update

COVID-19 cases are beginning to surge in Coal County. As of July 28, there were only four new cases followed by August 4 with 11 new, August 11 with a huge jump to 46 new and last week there were 20 new cases.

PALACE DRUG UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP

PALACE DRUG UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP — The Palace Drug in Coalgate is under new ownership…but it’s still staying in the Barnett family. On June 30, cousins Jared Collins and Chad Trentham purchased the store from Tammie Barnett (Jared’s mother), Tommie Barnett Stanberry (Chad’s mother), and Cheri Barnett Shores (Jared and Chad’s aunt). Tammie, Tommie and Cheri are the daughters of the late Tom and Gay Barnett who bought the store in 1980. From left – Pharmacist Jared Collins, Ashley Collins, Tammie Barnett, Cheri Barnett Shores, Tommie Barnett Stanberry, Brittany Trentham, and Chad Trentham.
